DAY 1 SATURDAY – Palermo
Arrival at Palermo. Transfer to hotel in Palermo for welcome cocktail, dinner and overnight in Palermo.
DAY 2 SUNDAY – Palermo - Cefalu - Catania
Morning visit of Sicily's capital city Palermo to include the Cathedral, Palatine Chapel, Quatro Canti and opera house. Lunch in a local restaurant. Depart for Cefalu a former fishing village, now a charming coastal resort with its imposing Arab Norman Cathedral. Stroll through the ancient narrow street and see the medieval wash-house built in the rock. Continue to Catania famous for its original baroque style and black lava stone streets. Dinner and overnight in Catania.
DAY 3 MONDAY – Piazza Armerina - Caltagirone
Depart for Piazza Armerina to visit the famous mosaics at Villa Romana del Casale which houses the largest collection in the world. Lunch in a local restaurant then on to Caltagirone - UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its production of hand-crafted ceramics and striking Santa Maria del Monte staircase of 142 steps decorated with hand-painted tiles. Time at leisure then back to Catania. Dinner and overnight in Catania.
DAY 4 TUESDAY – Mount Etna - Taormina
After breakfast, weather conditions permitting, excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Across fascinating lanscape we ascend to a height of 1900 metres to visit the Sylvester Craters and enjoy a spectalular view over the Ionian Sea stopping on the way in the village of Zafferana Etnea "the city of honey" for a tasting. On to the charming resort of Taormina. Founded in 400BC it is a stunning location high on a hill-top overlooking Mount Etna. Lunch in a local restaurant. Time at leisure to visit the Greek-Roman theatre or stroll through the little streets with their array of shops and cafes. Back to Catania for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5 WEDNESDAY – Siracusa - Noto - Ragusa
Depart for Siracusa, visit the archaeological area including the Latomie of the Paradise and the Dyionisos "Ear". Enjoy Ortigia the baroque city's historical centre, visit the Cathedral and Arethusa fountain. Lunch in a local restaurant. Depart for Noto one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily. With its splendid Cathedral it is renowned for its baroque style and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On to Ragusa. Optional evening visit by night of the ancient city of Ragusa Ibla (supplement to pay and subject to a minimum number of participants). Dinner and overnight in Ragusa.
DAY 6 THURSDAY – Modica - Agrigento
Depart for Modica to visit the city divided in two parts "Bassa" and "Alta". Enjoy its fine baroque churches and sample some of Modica's famous chocolate made using ancient methods. Lunch in a local restaurant. On to Agrigento and a visit of the magnificent "Valley of the Temples" incuding the well-preserved temple of Concord plus Juno and Heracles - fines examples of Greek civilization. Dinner and overnight in Agrigento.
DAY 7 FRIDAY – Selinunte - Marsala - Palermo
Depart for a visit of the archaeological park at Selinunte with its impressive Templeas and Acropolis. After the visit stop at a local farmhouse famous for olive oil production to have a tasting before enjoying lunch. On to Marsala on the West coast renowned for its production of sweet wine. Take in a visit of the historical centre and visit a prestigious winery to learn of its production and sample the end result. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
DAY 8 SATURDAY
After breakfast end of tour.
