Rising superbly on the crest of
the hill which houses Taormina and with unrivalled views over
the dramatic coastline and Mount Etna, the elegant world
famous San Domenico Palace began life in the fifteenth century
as a Dominican monastery. Converted in 1896 into a luxury
hotel, somehow little of the original atmosphere seems to have
been lost in this transformation. The richly carpeted
corridors were once the cloisters and many antique furnishings
remain. The lofty reception rooms include several sitting
areas and the exotic terraced gardens with their heavenly
scent of jasmine lead to the secluded swimming pool.
